Did You Know?

Misty Moon Station

Misty Moon Station
It was a deep night on Europa, Jupiter's icy moon, where the sun's light reached only occasionally, reflecting off the white drifts on the surface. The Artemis research station glowed a pale blue amid thick fog and icy rocks. Inside, the three astronauts - Lena, the mission captain, her friend Max and the station's new biologist, Miriam - sat engrossed in analysing the data coming from inside the ice shell. For several days, the computer had been receiving strange radio signals whose source could not be located. The messages echoed in the silence like barely audible whispers: short series of pulses, impossible to decipher. Max, the station engineer, tried to intercept them on all frequencies. - 'This is no ordinary disturbance,' he said. - 'Look at this pattern. Someone or ... something is trying to contact us. Lena stared at the screens. The success of the entire mission depended on their response. And maybe even the safety of the entire crew. As soon as another pulse appeared on the monitor, she realised that the messages were becoming clearer. Lines of code were arranging themselves in geometric shapes. - This looks like... a map? - Miriam tilted her head, trying to comprehend what she was seeing. A point appeared on the map - flashing red, deep beneath the ice of Europe, in a place where their sensors had never detected movement before. Lena made a decision. - We need to build a drone and send it there. They began feverish preparations. The drone's engines were already warmed up and the cabin was filled with tension. Suddenly, the lights in the station flicked on and another signal came from the speakers - this time clearer. "You are not alone..." - could be heard over the noise. All three froze, looking at each other. Behind the thick laboratory glass, in the ice, something bright shone for a moment - as if the footsteps of glowing, mysterious beings were moving beneath the surface. After a moment, everything was enveloped in darkness again. No one spoke. The astronauts' hearts were gripped by a mixture of fear and fascination. Should they send a drone? What waited beneath the icy crust of Europa? I... who was actually sending these messages?
