Map from under the old bridge
Hania lived by the river and a small bridge. She liked to listen to the splash of the water and the whistle of the train. One morning she found a bottle under the bridge. Inside lay a map with a red cross on it. Waiting on the shore was her best friend, Leon.
- Is this a treasure? - Leon asked, eyes wide open. - 'Let's check today before the sun goes down,' said Hania. The map led through the park, the square and the old station. They carried a rucksack with water, a torch and a compass. On the way they met Mrs Zuzia from the bakery. - Where to so soon? - she asked, handing them a croissant. - We are looking for a cross - whispered Leon, a little shy.
The cross was by the old ruins behind the station. The silence there sounded like a great shell. A silver button and feather glittered on the ground. Next to it stood a gate made of planks and chain. Someone had hung a bell from an oak leaf on it. Hania lifted the leaf and the bell rang softly. Suddenly a faint green light came on in the ruins. Something fluttered in the bushes, like small wings. - Can you hear it, Leonie? - Hania squeezed his hand. The gate creaked and began to open slowly.
