Lila and the purring stone
In the town below Cloud Mountain lived Lila. She liked to collect shiny pebbles by the lake. Today she found a strange, warm stone in the grass. The stone purred quietly, like a cat by the fireplace. Thin veins could be seen on the surface of the stone. They flashed like tiny rivers in the sunlight.
Grandmother spoke of dragons from this mountain. Apparently they guard the lake and the silver fish. Lila put the stone in her backpack, very carefully. Suddenly she heard splashing and splashing by the reeds. Something cut through the water like a green arrow. A trail of scales was left on the shore, soft and warm.
Lila twitched as the backpack began to sway. The lock trembled and shone with a faint green light. "Hello? Are you inside?" she whispered to the stone. A short "poof" and a quiet hiss came from the rucksack. The grass moved and a shadow ran through the reeds. Something blew warm air just behind her back.
