Lila and the mysterious blue feather
Lila the squirrel lived in an old, humming oak tree.
Every morning she collected nuts by the forest path.
One day the hollow was empty and cold.
Instead of nuts, a small blue feather lay there.
Next to the hollow lay a cracked, empty nut.
- Who visited me? - squealed Lila.
Lila touched the feather and sighed quietly.
Tutu the hedgehog came, carrying leaves like shields.
- Hello, Lila, what's wrong? - he asked.
Wet footprints of tiny paws glistened on the ground.
Tutu sniffed the footprints and snorted in curiosity.
The footprints led through the mosses to a stream.
The stream whispered and carried leaves like small boats.
Lila and Tutu stepped onto a low bridge.
Under the bridge, something sloshed quietly until the moss trembled.
Circles like rings curled on the water.
Footsteps turned into the reeds where another feather hung.
The reeds rustled like a whisper and the wind quieted.
- 'Get your tail ready to jump,' whispered Tutu.
Lila lifted the twigs and something moved in the shadows.
