Did You Know?

Lift on the Twentieth Floor

Lift on the Twentieth Floor
Darkness enveloped the old dormitory building on Oak Street, and thick clouds obscured even the light of the lanterns. Magda, Tomek and Rafał stood in the empty corridor, clutching torches in their hands. All they could hear was the echo of their own footsteps bouncing off the cracked walls. The place had been deserted for a long time, but that night they decided to discover the truth about the lift that, according to urban legend, was supposed to stop on the twentieth floor - a floor that was not on any plans and that no one wanted to talk about. They stepped through the overturned door and moved towards the dark interior. The lift button shone with an unsettling red light. Raphael put a trembling finger on it. They heard a muffled noise and then the metal doors slowly opened, revealing the surprisingly clean interior of the cabin. Magda looked around nervously, clutching in her hand an amulet she had once received from her grandmother. Tom laughed nervously: - 'I can't believe we're here. If something is going to transport us, let's hope it's to heaven at the most.... Raphael pressed the button for the highest floor - the nineteenth. The lift moved, jerking the floor slightly. The numbers above the doors changed slowly, moving from the first to the nineteenth. Suddenly, the lights in the cabin flickered. Instead of the number 19, red appeared: "20". The three friends looked at each other in amazement. The door slowly slid open. Behind them there was thick darkness, interrupted only by the flickering light from their torches. Somewhere in the distance, a quiet, protracted creaking sounded - as if someone was moving old furniture. A soft light flashed at the end of the corridor, and the murmur of voices reached their ears. Magda took the first step onto the unfamiliar floor, and the boys followed her. Their torches illuminated walls covered with strange signs and pictures of people they had never seen before. The creaking fell silent and the silence was pierced by a child's melody played by an old music box. At that very moment, a deep, drawn-out breathing could be heard from deep in the corridor - so quiet that they weren't sure it wasn't just their imagination. They froze in silence, coming face to face with something that should not exist....
