Lena's torch and the rustle in the wardrobe
It was a quiet evening at Lena's grandmother's house. Lena lay in bed and was awake. Spots from the moon were dancing on the wall. She kept her yellow torch under her pillow. Suddenly she heard a quiet rustle in the wardrobe.
- Can you hear it, Mint? - she whispered to her teddy bear. The window was tightly closed, the curtains were immovable. The rustle sounded again, a little closer. Lena sat up and turned on her torch. The light made a bright stripe on the carpet. 'It's just clothes, surely,' she said. The floor creaked quietly under her feet. She stopped in front of the wardrobe and listened.
Something scratched from inside, like a claw. - Hello? - She whispered, touching the cold doorknob. The handle moved very slowly on its own. The light suddenly trembled and the batteries flicked on. Something tiny and blue flashed in the crack. A quiet, fast tapping came from inside. The cupboard door began to open by itself.
