Lena's talking pencil
The school corridor smelled of paint and yeast. Lena was clutching a new pencil from the kiosk in her hand. On the pencil was written: Number Seven, Not Boring. As she sat down in the art room, the pencil sneezed. "Please don't draw straight lines," it whispered into her hand. Lena froze and almost dropped the pencil on the floor. Kuba, her neighbour from the bench, burst into laughter for half the class.
That day they were supposed to draw the school mascot for a competition. "It's a hedgehog, the mascot of the canteen," Kuba explained. "I know, and I already have a vision," hissed the pencil. "But the hedgehog can be with a hat, right?" Lena tried to draw a normal muzzle first. The pencil took a turn on its own and added a moustache, slippers and a suitcase. "Stop, or there will be an affair!" whispered Lena. "Boredom harms graphite, and I take care of my health," he replied. Suddenly, the pencil started tinkling the tune from the school bell and drawing a cucumber on the hedgehog's back.
Cuba giggled so loudly that half the class looked. The teacher raised an eyebrow and motioned towards them. "Keep quiet because there is a competition going on," she said. Pencil pretended to be sleeping very deeply. When the teacher left, the pencil became animated again. "I have a great plan, you'll see," he whispered. "We're going to win the art competition thanks to the glow effect." "What kind of effect?" asked Lena. "The glow effect always works," he replied. He swung his graphite like a conductor and started writing on a piece of paper: List of Scandals in Our Class.
"No!" hissed Lena, trying to grab it. The pencil jumped out of her hand, rolled across the tabletop and jumped onto the rim of the brush cup. A moment later, it shot straight into the journal lying on the teacher's desk. "Attention, the truth is coming, please fasten your seatbelts!" he called out. Cuba opened his mouth without saying a word. The teacher had just turned towards them when the graphite touched the first page of the journal....
