Labyrinth of Underground Shadows
A storm shrouded the old town as Lena and Michael, archaeology students at the local university, ran through the deserted streets of the Old Town. They were brought here by chance - or perhaps fate? Just today, while excavating the basement of an abandoned tenement, Lena came across a masked trapdoor under the rubble. There were legends floating around about underground tunnels beneath the city, but no one had ever proven their existence.
- 'I think that's it,' Lena whispered excitedly, pointing to a spot near the collapsed wall.
Without a word, Michal grabbed the torch and Lena pushed back the lid. A cool gust hit them on the nose. Behind the trapdoor led a staircase, old and slick. They descended, the torchlight staggering luminous circles along walls covered with mysterious symbols.
- Can you see the signs? - Michal knelt down to take a closer look. - 'I think they're old Slavic runes.
The deeper they descended, the more the tension grew. Eventually they came to a branch. One corridor led into darkness, the other was flooded with a reddish light, as if a fire was burning from deep within.
- Can you hear it? - Lena stopped, listening. There were quiet whispers coming from the depths of the dark corridor, and shadows were moving along the walls, though there was no one beyond them.
Suddenly, something rasped in the darkness. Lena and Michael exchanged concerned glances. At the same moment, the torchlight flickered and went out, and a figure dressed in a black cloak emerged from around the corner....
