Jagna and the mystery of Leslie
Jagna lived by the forest and the river.
That evening a bonfire was burning in the meadow.
The children were singing and throwing garlands on the water.
Mum was tying herbs and laughing quietly.
Grandma whispered about Kupala Night and Leszym.
Grandma said not to go alone to the forest.
Jagna saw a garland that flowed no further.
It stood as if by magic, right next to the reeds.
A quiet whisper came from the reeds: Jagna, come.
Jagna looked around, but no one was standing close.
On the sand lay a stick with a leaf carved on it.
Such signs are said to be made by Leszy himself.
A tiny silver feather glittered on the stem.
Jagna grabbed the stick and walked over to the reeds.
The skylights lit up and formed a path.
A twig like hand pointed the way into the borch.
Somewhere a frog croaked and leaves rustled.
Just then a low drum sounded from the depths.
The path moved into the gloom, and Jagna took a step.
