Invisible threads of reality

Invisible threads of reality
Most people think that living in a plain grey block of flats in the suburbs is nothing enviable. Lena thought so too - until the day she noticed that her tea cup moved on its own as soon as she thought of a hot mint tea. She thought it was a coincidence, but that very evening, as she was reading an old book from her grandmother, the words on one of the pages began to glow with a soft blue light. Lena blinked her eyes, trying to grasp whether it was just the play of light or whether her fatigue was playing tricks on her. The next day things were even stranger - her younger brother Peter's glasses had suddenly been found in a locked cupboard, even though they had searched the flat hours earlier. Something was going on. Something Lena hadn't noticed before. Was it magic? Or was it just a coincidence? She decided to test her suspicions. After school, she arranged the items that the family members used every day on the table - her dad's pen, her mum's earring, Peter's gamepad, and her mug. "If it's not a coincidence, something is going to happen," she whispered in her mind and sat down across the table, looking carefully at the objects. Then she heard a quiet, barely perceptible crackling - as if thin threads were breaking in the air. The objects began to slowly float in the air, rotating lazily around their own axis. Lena froze, unable to take her eyes off what was happening. Luminous threads began to flow from the ceiling, entwining the objects, as if someone was weaving an invisible web over her world. Suddenly, the door to the room slammed slightly and Peter appeared, staring wide-eyed at the gamepad hovering over the table. "Lena, what's going on here?" - he whispered, and Lena felt that they were just crossing a boundary from which there was no turning back. But then the luminous threads began to tremble, and the whole room was filled with a strange, unsettling light....
