Hyperion 7: The Last Station of Silence

Hyperion 7: The Last Station of Silence
Through the panoramic window of Hyperion 7's main research module space, hundreds of stars were visible and seemed closer than ever. The entire station, drifting in Saturn's shadow, seemed forgotten by time. But for Alice, the leader of the team of young scientists, it was the most exciting mission of her 17-year life. After months of training at the Interplanetary Academy, they were chosen to carry out the first reconnaissance on Hyperion 7 since the station was officially shut down. The reason? Officially, a "technical fault". In reality, it was cut off from the rest of the fleet after an unknown accident. The team was small: Alicia, a biologist fascinated by alien ecosystems; Erik, a brilliant programmer; Lena, a specialist in engineering and life support systems; and Samuel, a pilot. Each of them had their own reason for agreeing to take part in this mission - although no one expected that after the first day they would hit upon something that went beyond standard exploration procedures. Upon exiting the airlock, Lena noticed that the control panels in the main corridor were pulsing with a strange blue light. They shouldn't. The emergency power supply was only supposed to power the communications panels. Erik immediately connected to the terminal - the system rejected all attempts to log in, as if it had a will of its own. Samuel, meanwhile, anxiously watched the lift going down - they hadn't activated it, yet the cabin was very slowly sliding down to the lower decks. Alice swallowed her saliva. "Anyone here?" - she threw through the communicator, not expecting an answer. Behind her back, Lena clutched the multifunction tool in her hand. The silence was broken by the hum of the ventilation system - and something else: a barely audible, rhythmic sound like a heartbeat. At the same moment, Erik received a message. A sequence of characters appeared on the screen that none of the team could immediately identify. The string of zeros and ones formed a repetitive pattern. The longer Erik stared, the more it seemed to him that there must be a hidden message behind it. "We're not alone here," Lena whispered. The lift stopped with a quiet hiss. The doors slowly slid open. In their light, a silhouette appeared at the end of the corridor. The team froze. No one knew what or who would emerge from the shadows.
