Hela and the giggling backpack
In the morning, the nursery smelled of sugar pancakes. Hela had a backpack with green dots. The backpack sometimes giggled, like a little hamster. Hela whispered: "Shh, it's a secret". Mrs Basia blew her whistle for the morning circle. Then something buzzed right out of Hela's backpack. The backpack jumped up and knocked over a box of crayons.
Hela looked inside, very carefully. She took out a banana, a rubber chicken and one sock. Someone had disguised the banana as a phone and was calling. - Hello? - whispered Hela to the banana. There was also a quiet gurgle coming from the backpack. Suddenly, Mrs Basia's whistle began to squeak inside. The backpack twitched and swallowed it with one clack. The children squealed and Mrs Basia cmoched. - 'Give back the whistle, you prankster,' she said.
Hela embraced the rucksack and felt a slight tremor. The lock moved, as if winking at her. Inside, something rustled and giggled quietly. - Ready? - whispered the backpack, very clearly. Hela took a breath and grabbed the lock. Everyone leaned close, even Mrs Basia. Hela pulled and there was a flash inside....
