Guardians of the Portals: Passage in the Library

Guardians of the Portals: Passage in the Library
The school library smelled of dust and old paper. It was late afternoon when Lena, Philip and Olive were sitting in a corner working on a history project. Most of the students had long since left the building, but they seemed not to feel the passage of time. Lena, the most inquisitive of the three, wandered her eyes around the bookcases. At one point, her attention was caught by a thick book that she had not noticed before. It had a dark blue cover and a gilded title: 'Chronics of the Worlds'. Before anyone had time to protest, Lena reached for the book. "Look at this! This book doesn't even have a library code..." - she said in a whisper. As soon as she opened the first page, they felt a gentle gust of wind, as if someone had opened a window. However, they were all tightly closed. The pages turned on their own, stopping at a page with a strange illustration: there was a painted old-fashioned globe with stars scattered on the sides. Just below it, someone had handwritten: "Where the imagination ends, the journey begins". Suddenly, a bluish glow came from inside the book. Olive jumped back, Philip shook his head in disbelief. Lena, however, drew us all closer; the light gradually thickened until it formed a swirling mist that began to engulf the floor beneath their feet. "I think it's... a portal?" - Philip whispered. It became icy cold and the books on the bookcases began to tremble gently. The three friends shuddered - they knew they only had a few seconds to decide: run away or... let themselves be kidnapped? As Lena stretched her hand towards the light, they heard a quiet crack at the library door. Someone else was here. Should they enter the portal or retreat at the last moment? Or did the newcomer know the secrets of this strange book? Anything could have happened...
