Did You Know?

Guardians of the Portal Circle

Guardians of the Portal Circle
For the past two years, no one had looked into the old, abandoned observatory on the hill above the town. At least that's what the adults claimed. But for Mira, David and Natan, this place has always had something about it that attracted them more strongly than a game of football or new films on streaming. That afternoon, the wind was ripping leaves from the trees as they climbed the hill. Clouds glided low and tall poplars rustled above the brick-built building. Mira picked up her phone and switched on her torch. - 'Are you sure this is a good idea? - David asked, looking around nervously. - Did you hear what Paul said? That here sometimes strange lights appear on the walls. - Paul talks a lot - snorted Mira. - Come on, before it gets even darker. Natan walked up to the rusty door and pushed it open. It creaked, giving way under his hand. The interior smelled of dust and damp. They stepped over the threshold. In the main hall, under the cracked ceiling, stood an old planetarium covered in cobwebs. Only the rays of the setting sun illuminated the twilight around. - Look! - whispered David, pointing to the floor. Just by the wall, a circle of worn but still multi-coloured stones was clearly visible. Something in its arrangement made them feel they were being watched. Mira crouched by the circle and touched one of the stones. At the same moment, blue streaks of light flashed across the observatory and the air trembled. David reflexively grabbed Natan's hand. - 'What's that? - He asked in a whisper. The circle began to glow brighter and brighter, and the floor beneath them seemed to ripple like the surface of a lake in a storm. As she tried to withdraw her hand, Mira felt a strange tingling sensation running through her whole body. For a split second, she saw beyond the hazy border of the circle a vast, unknown world - multicoloured landscapes, tall, twisting trees and indistinct silhouettes moving in the distance. Suddenly, everything began to swirl. The ceiling of the observatory blurred and a distorted voice came from the distance, sounding completely alien: - Guards... you have crossed the border. In the same instant, all three of them were enveloped in darkness and their sense of reality disappeared, as if someone had erased their world with a flick of an eraser. When Mira opened her eyes, she was lying on soft, blue moss, a forest stretched around her, sparkling with strange, fluorescent insects. David and Natan were right beside her, disoriented, looking around. - Where... are we...? - choked out Natan. A figure with silver eyes emerged from the thicket in front of them and whispered: - You have very little time. The circle is closing...
