The Academy of Magic on Copernicus Hill was a place where nothing was what it seemed. Even the biscuits in the canteen could run away from the students - especially Janek, a perpetual dreamer with a foul tongue and endless ideas for jokes. Janek had a friend - Susie - who was said to be able to spell the internet, but never admitted in which programming language. Life at the academy flowed lazily - professors lived in the clouds (not figuratively, but literally), and there were ducks everywhere - the pride of the academy and a constant source of trouble. Ducks were absolutely everywhere: in the library, in the bathrooms, and even in exams they could sit on a paper and not let you check your answer. One Thursday, just after his morning breakfast (biscuits escaped as usual), Janek found a mysterious piece of paper stuck under his pillow. There were only two words on the card: "Look under the fountain". Janek was sure it was another prank by Zuza, but she swore she had nothing to do with it. Curious, he and Zuza set off for the Academy's garden, where a huge marble fountain occupied the centre. They didn't even manage to take a few steps, however, when Professor Partridge - a famous alchemy teacher who had a weakness for bizarre hats (today, a model resembling a pizza rather than anything else shone on his head) - sprang up in front of them. - And where are you youngsters going? - asked the professor suspiciously, swaying slightly on his heels. - Er... to watch the ducks! - paled Janek. The professor squinted his eyes: - Watch carefully. Today they have exceptionally much to say. A shudder went through Susie. They had barely walked a piece away when they heard something that sounded like a quarrel... of ducks. Raised voices were coming from behind the fountain, and one duck - all pink, with a blue bow (they had never seen it here before!) - was perorating something about the "lost Heart of the Fountain" and the "terrible afternoon flood risk". Janek and Zuza exchanged glances full of disbelief. Could it be that they had just stood on the threshold of the strangest adventure in the Academy's history? Or was someone playing a joke on them again? But they had no time to answer - the pink duck looked them straight in the eye and....
