Did You Know?

Glass Forest

Glass Forest
The smell of rain filled the air as Lena walked along a deserted street on the outskirts of the city. Although she knew this part well, something that night made her turn into a narrow alley she had never seen before. The signboard of an old antique shop - 'Under the Clock' - glimmered on her left. The books in the windows were bending under the weight of dust and memories. Lena quickened her step, but something stopped her. A small silver key lay on the pavement, perfectly illuminated by the beam of the street lamp. Before she had time to think, she picked up the key and felt the cold permeate her fingers. The door of the antique shop creaked open, though she didn't see anyone open it. Inside, it smelled of old parchment and something else - intangible, as if unreal. Behind the counter sat a man with bright eyes. "Are you looking for answers?" he asked without smiling. Lena didn't know what to say, so she just nodded. "Every answer has a price. Sometimes it is a question." The man pulled out a map from under the counter. Its paper glittered, and the lines of forests and rivers shimmered with an unreal glow. "The Glass Forest. The key opens a passage into it, but remember - not everything you see will be real. Not even you." Lena accepted the map and the key, though her hand trembled slightly. She opened the back door of the antique shop, beyond which stretched the Glass Forest. The trees shone as if someone had conjured them from crystal. With each step, instead of rustling, the ground rang with a soft, glassy reverberation. The deeper she went, the more the world around her ceased to resemble anything familiar from ordinary life. At one point, Lena heard a muffled whisper. She looked behind her, but saw no one. At the edge of the clearing, immersed in the shadows, stood something that resembled a figure, although it appeared to be made up not of flesh but of smoke and light. Its eyes glowed with an icy radiance. Lena felt the key in her hand grow heavier and heavier, and the air around her thickened with magic. The figure moved slowly towards her, and Lena felt her heart beating faster than ever before....
