The abandoned hospital on the outskirts of the city had long been a cause for concern - once bustling with life, it was now consumed by silence, broken only by the echoing footsteps of those who dared to cross the rusty gate. Lena liked places like this - the only place where she could feel the thrill of real mystery. Her friends preferred parties, bars, the hustle and bustle - she strayed here again, with a torch and an old notebook under her arm, looking for inspiration for her comic strip. Fallen tiles lay in the corridors and the torchlight drew fantastic shadows on the walls. Lena went deeper, into the surgical wing, where the air, even after all these years, still smelled of disinfectants. Footsteps echoed in her ears. Suddenly she heard a strange creaking, as if someone had closed the door behind her. She quickened her step and it was then that she noticed something she had never seen before - a light seeping from under the door of room 12. She should have been frightened, but curiosity won out. She opened the door and stood as if stunned. In the middle of the room there was nothing - except a perfectly circular portal. Its periphery pulsed with violet-blue light, a strange electricity could be felt in the air. The portal seemed to live with a pulse of its own, and Lena was sure she saw something behind it that resembled no place she knew: a vast, tangled city in which buildings seemed to break the laws of physics, tilting and dancing to the rhythm of an invisible melody. Lena stood there, hearing her own heartbeat getting louder and louder. Should she go to the other side? Is there even a way back? At the same moment, something - or someone - appeared on the other side of the portal. For a blink of a second, Lena was sure that a silhouette smiled at her.
