Gates under the High Court

Gates under the High Court
The autumn evening was crisp and thickly streaked with fog that drizzled over the old park like a milky quilt. Kacper, Marta and Olga, a pack from high school, were walking along a trodden path at the edge of town. The air smelled of dampness and rotting leaves. Years later, they returned to their hometown to reminisce about their childhood together, but their conversations drifted more and more towards new things - studies, work, what lies ahead. In the shade of the tall trees, there was an old manor house, around which many urban legends revolved. Martha, always the most eager to challenge herself, chuckled: "Since we're here, we're going to go see the manor. After all, we're not in any danger, are we?" Kacper, curious by nature, reached into the niche and came across a small metal ball. As soon as he touched it, the whole room lit up with eerie colours. The light swirled and the wall turned into something that resembled a sheet of water moved by an invisible wind. The space around began to tremble, the contours of reality blurring. Finally, a shape appeared in front of the three - a door without a handle, wrapped in a web of luminous threads. One sensed that crossing the threshold might mean a journey neither of them could have anticipated. For a moment they looked at each other in disbelief and excitement. Martha took a deep breath and slowly extended her hand towards the door. As her fingers touched the surface, there was a loud crashing sound, and
