Flashing lights on the school roof
The wind flowed through the empty corridors of the Maria Skłodowska-Curie school, causing a quiet wail that could be mistaken for the whispers of former students. Kuba, holding a torch, approached the door leading to the roof anxiously. Karolina stood just behind him, the lights of the city reflected in her eyes as they spilled far beyond the windows.
- 'Are you sure this is a good idea? - She asked quietly, but the echo of her whisper still carried through the stairwell.
- 'We've been saying for a month that we're going to do something crazy. It's time to stop just talking,' replied Kuba, trying to give himself some reassurance. Artur and Milena had already pushed their way to the front and were opening the heavy door to the roof with their joint efforts. The creaking of metal sounded like the signal to take off - too late to back out.
A cool breeze greeted them on the roof. The city glowed like scattered jewels, and the red lights of skyscrapers flashed on the horizon. For a moment, no one spoke. Each of them felt their hearts beating harder. Cuba realised that it wasn't just the fear of breaking the school rules, but something deeper - a sense that something was going to happen today that neither of them would forget.
- 'We have to be careful,' said Milena, who had always understood the importance of boundaries, but today her voice sounded different - as if she wanted to cross those boundaries herself.
As Artur walked to the edge of the roof and looked down, he closed his eyes for a moment. He had never admitted to his friends how afraid he was of heights. Now, however, he felt that it was on this night that he had to face not only his fear, but also his growing need to be more than just "the one who always pushes back".
Everything changed when a strange light flashed at the opposite end of the roof. First one, then another - as if someone was giving them signs from behind the chimney. Their hearts began to beat even faster, and the tension grew with every second.
- Did you hear that? - whispered Karolina, grabbing Kuba's hand.
In the silence, they heard a quiet laugh that didn't belong to any of them. They all looked at each other. The school should be empty, and yet....
They didn't know if it was their imagination playing tricks on them or if there really was someone else on the roof with them that night. Cuba nodded towards the lights, encouraging his friends to move together. With every step, the emotions grew - fear, excitement, curiosity and a strange sense of togetherness that turned every step they took into something more than a simple adventure.
As they approached the chimney, the lights disappeared. In the place where someone or something was waiting for them, the air became thick with tension. In that one moment, anything could have happened....
