Emerald Circle

Emerald Circle
The Sculptor's Forest, an old forest on the outskirts of the town of Lira, was famous for its unsettling shadows and trees entwining branches like the fingers of giants. Some swore that the trees there talked, others that the winds carried songs that changed the listener forever. But only a few had the courage to go deep into the forest during the new moon. Antek, Lena and Szymon, three friends have long pushed the boundaries of their own imagination. Their evening meetings in a deserted gazebo turned into storms of plans, and each of their adventures ended with a stronger heartbeat. One gloomy evening, Lena brought in an old, dusty notebook she had unearthed in her great-grandfather's attic. "Look," she whispered, spreading it out on the table. Words flowed from the yellowed pages in a language neither of them understood. But under one of the drawings, Lena found a clear sketch: A circle with crystals embedded in the ground and trees that were clearly growing in the Sculptor's Forest. "That must be the clearing there!" exclaimed Simon. Antek, usually the most sceptical, felt his fingers tremble with excitement - something was pushing them to try. The next night, armed with torches, a compass, and his great-grandfather's notebook, they set off into the forest. Fog drifted between the trees and their footsteps were muffled by the wet mulch. Shadows twitched in the light of the torches, and a quiet, steady rumble came from the distance, as if the heart of the forest was beating for them. When they finally reached the clearing, they saw seven boulders arranged in a perfect circle. In the centre lay an emerald stone, shining with its own light, although complete darkness reigned all around. Lena opened her notebook and read the first line she had deciphered earlier - with a tremble in her voice, she spoke the words aloud. At that moment, the air thickened and a green glow began to swirl around their feet, lifting particles of earth and leaves. The light from the centre of the circle pulsed to the rhythm of their own hearts, and the sounds of the night suddenly fell silent. Then a shape emerged from the emerald stone, unlike anything they had ever seen. Shadows began to dance around them, the trees bent as if they wanted a closer look at the whole thing. The three friends held their breath as they knew that here they were crossing a boundary from which there was no return....
