Echoes of the Star Ruins
The darkness of the interstellar void was illuminated only by the blue-grey glow of distant nebulae. The research vessel 'Phoenix' glided silently through the uncharted reaches of the Milky Way, moving ever further away from home Earth and all that was familiar. Silence reigned on the bridge, broken only by the gentle buzzing of consoles.
Captain Lena Mirska stared at the screen, on which a faint, regular shape had just been outlined, with a slanted forehead. Next to her, pilot Kacper, experienced and ironic, was mumbling something under his breath, trying to identify the object. In the third seat sat the newest member of the crew - Dr Sara Kostecka, a space archaeologist with a head full of theories about ancient civilisations.
As the Phoenix approached the point detected by the sensitive radar, a huge, geometric structure loomed up before the crew's eyes, floating alone in the vacuum. Metallic, but already overblown by time and emptiness, the ruins rotated slowly, as if waiting for a visit. From inside the station, through the communicator, a flickering, disturbing signal - untranslated and rhythmic - began to come through.
Sara froze, listening to the repeating code. - 'It could be a call, or a warning,' she said quietly. Lena nodded and decided:
- Prepare the suits. Let's go in.
As the airlock of the Phoenix opened into the dark void, all three moved towards the mysterious station, the interior of which was engulfed by a deep black silence. Torchlights illuminated a labyrinth of corridors covered with incomprehensible symbols. Suddenly, at the end of one of the tunnels, something flashed ominously and the signal on their communicators changed to a clear, repetitive word. Each sensed that around the next bend something awaited them that they could not even imagine....
