Echoes of the Star Gardens

Echoes of the Star Gardens
The Zeta-9 spacecraft glided silently through the velvety blackness of space, breaking through clouds of interstellar dust. The four passengers, students of the prestigious Tycho Brahe High School of Astronautics, gazed through the panoramic portholes, absorbed by the extraordinary view. Kasia, research group leader and astrobiology enthusiast, carefully analysed the onboard logs, looking for signs of a connection to the orbital Eden station. - 'The emergency signal came exactly 18 hours ago,' she said, casting a fleeting glance at the others. - Communication is still missing. According to protocol, we need to inspect the site. Next to her, Mat, the IT genius, nervously tapped his fingers on the console. - The scanners don't detect any external damage, but.... something's not right with the station's energy field. It's as if something is distracting them.... Or masking it. - He suspended his voice, as if he couldn't believe his own words. Sandra, a specialist in experimental physics, looked out of the window, watching the delicate shape of the station emerge in the distance against the blue nebula. Eden. The largest orbital farm, where pioneering research into growing plants in zero gravity was being conducted. - 'Listen, this isn't just interference,' Alex, the astrographer and youngest of the group, spoke up quietly. - 'There are some patterns appearing on the visualisation of the energy field. Repetitive pulses. They don't look like technical disturbances. More like a... a signal? To whom would it be sent? As the Zeta-9 approached the airlock, the station lights flashed ominously. The automatic docking system hesitated, then automatically activated emergency mode. The young researchers exchanged nervous glances as they pulled on their suits and checked their equipment. The permeating silence on Eden was almost acute as they stood in the empty entrance hall. Fresh boot marks could be seen on the walls, as if the crew were fleeing in a hurry. The door to the control room was wide open and a broken tablet lay on the floor, still displaying a coded message. Mat picked up the device. - There's a note, but it was password protected. Someone didn't want it to be read easily. Suddenly there was a sound, like a distant buzzing - quiet, but increasing with every second, as if something was approaching from the depths of the station. Sandra raised her head, holding her breath. It echoed restlessly through the empty corridors, bouncing off the metal walls. - 'Can you guys hear it too? - whispered Kasia, clutching the bio-detector. - It's not the sound of the device... The buzzing intensified further. Behind the hazy glass of the hydroponics garden, something suddenly flashed by, casting a long shadow on the wall. The group instinctively took a step back, ready to flee or confront. At the same moment, the life system's warning wailed: 'Presence of unknown energy form detected in section C'. Kasia raised the detector, which began to pulsate with blue light. - We have to decide what we do. Either we search for the source of this phenomenon, or we return to the ship immediately. They all looked at each other, sensing the tension. Had they found something that should never have been discovered? Or perhaps someone or something was waiting just for them, deep in the heart of Eden....
