Did You Know?

Echoes of the Silming Lake

Echoes of the Silming Lake
In the Valley of the Mists, night always lasted a little longer than in other places. Thick vapours shrouded the old trees and the tops of the pines rose like the fingers of a giant trying to reach the moon. In the centre of the valley, hidden from the world, lay Sink Lake, which was said to have its own dreams and secrets. That evening, three young adults - Lena, Sara and Victor - were circling the shore with torches and a bag full of puzzling props. Lena, extremely creative and adventurous, couldn't contain her curiosity - ever since she was a child, she had heard stories about the voices that ring out here on the night of the full moon. Sara, the oldest of the three and the most sceptical, argued: - It's just a legend. No one has ever seen the lake really awaken. Victor, a silent observer, looked around anxiously. A mysterious wind rustled the branches, and the surface of the lake, usually calm, now shone like a sheet of glass, reflecting the silvery moonlight. Suddenly, something rustled in the rushes. Lena quickly raised her torch, directing the beam of light towards the source of the sound. Instead of the expected frog or nutria, they spotted a strange, sparkling stone that seemed to pulsate to the rhythm of their breaths. As Lena reached out to pick it up, an icy coldness pierced her hand, and a sound reminiscent of laughter, whispering and the sound of water rushing around at the same time rang out. Suddenly, the surface of the lake began to ripple, and a translucent shape rose from the centre - like a dreamlike dream, taking on human form. Victor stepped back violently, but Lena did not let go of the stone, feeling that they were just standing on the border of the world spoken of in the legends of old. The figure spoke in a voice that sounded both familiar and alien: - Who are you that you awaken the echoes of the Slumbering Lake? In the silence, broken only by the splashing of the waves, Lena, Sara and Victor looked at each other, not yet knowing whether the answer they would give would change their fate forever....
