Echoes of the Past
As Igor once again made his way through the corridors of the obscenely old high school in Praga, he felt as usual - a little bored, a little anxious. It was late autumn, the rain was rumbling on the windowsills, and only the remnants of light filtering through the dirty panes of glass were sprinkling through the corridors. Igor, holding in his hand a key stolen from the caretaker's bag, waited by the door to the cellar. He had promised Marika and Daniel, his best friends: tonight they would discover what was really hidden under the school.
Marika, with her hood pulled over her hair, looked at him and nodded, as if she'd had enough of waiting. Daniel shifted nervously from foot to foot, clutching his LED torch. "Come on, Igor, before the caretaker comes back," he whispered.
A moment later they were inside. The basement smelled of dust and cold. They traversed one corridor after another until they came to an iron door that no one had ever mentioned. It looked like it had been bolted for years, but to their surprise the key fit.
Inside was something they had not expected at all. The room was filled with old books, mechanical parts and something that looked like a huge metal capsule with dozens of coloured buttons and flashing lights. One wall was full of strange clocks whose hands moved in opposite directions.
Marika walked over to the machine and carefully touched one of the buttons. Immediately, there was a quiet humming noise and the air began to tremble, as it were. Daniel was fascinated to run his fingers over a screen full of dates. Igor, a little frightened, tried to stop his friends, but then suddenly all the clocks in the room began to strike twelve o'clock simultaneously.
Suddenly the light began to pulsate, the machine pulled them into its interior, and a deafening bang sounded all around. Before they had time to react, everything around them swirled. Before Igor could open his eyes, he was already somewhere else, in a world he had never imagined. Behind him, the still hazy figures of Marika and Daniel....
And just then he heard a voice, quiet and barely audible, coming from the darkness: "You shouldn't be here..."
