Did You Know?

Echoes of the Misty Mountains

Echoes of the Misty Mountains
The night was as dark as ink, and the only sound breaking the silence was the footsteps of Lira and her younger brother, Olen. They were quickly climbing the stony path leading through the Misty Pass, where, according to legends, the fog never recedes. Lira didn't believe the stories, but that night the fog seemed thicker than ever. It all started with a mysterious letter. An envelope without an address, left on the windowsill of their room, hid only one sentence: 'If you want to know the truth about yourself, walk through the fog when the moon reaches its zenith.' Reading these words a few hours earlier, Lira felt a stab of anxiety and excitement - she craved adventure, even though she knew that reality could be far more dangerous than children's fairy tales. But it was something deeper - some unconscious longing - that pushed her to act. Olen, although two years younger, was more sceptical. However, when he saw the determination in his sister's eyes, he decided to go with her - for her safety. Behind a bend, the path abruptly broke off and a wall of milky mist stretched in front of the siblings. Lira held her breath and took the first step. The mist was cold and clung to her skin like a spider web. The sounds of the world behind her fell silent. Olen walked right behind her, holding her tightly by the sleeve. After a few minutes of wandering in the dark, the fog parted abruptly. Lira was stunned. Before them stretched a landscape she was unfamiliar with - mysterious, silvery trees with spiralling branches, a lake with a surface like a mirror, and a strangely sparkling sky in which no known constellation arranged itself into familiar shapes. Suddenly, a figure emerged from behind one of the trees - a tall woman with hair the colour of the night sky and eyes sparkling like opals. Dressed in a robe of feathers, she seemed to float above the ground. - 'You have come at last,' she said in a voice that sounded both gentle and penetrating. - You are the last Guardians of the Echo. Destiny awaits. Before Lira had time to say anything, the woman made a gesture with her hand, and the ground beneath the siblings' feet began to move. Flames flared around them, arranging themselves in strange signs. Words sounded in their heads that they did not understand. They felt that here they were facing a choice that would bind their fate to this world - forever. The fog began to tighten again and the woman's voice became quieter, as if dissolving in the wind. In that moment, the siblings had to make a decision that would change everything. And just then, right next to them, something large and shimmering began to emerge from the lake, casting a disturbing glow across the entire clearing....
