Echo at the Old Cinema

Echo at the Old Cinema
The rustle of leaves resembled a whisper as Anka, Marek and Damian carefully crossed the rusty gate of the abandoned 'Heather' cinema. The dark, neglected walls of the cinema had haunted passers-by for years, and local legends claimed that something lived inside that repeated every word.... but belatedly and in a completely different tone. - 'I feel like I'm in a horror film here,' whispered Anka, squeezing her torch tighter. - 'No exaggeration, ghosts don't exist after all,' replied Marek, but his voice sounded less confident than usual. Damian, the bravest of the three, moved first, avoiding the tickets from years ago scattered around the corridor and the broken glass. The other two followed him, their every step echoing deafeningly off the walls. Eventually they reached room 5, the one about which most rumours circulated. According to urban legend, no one finished the last screening in this room because the lights went out and then, for several minutes afterwards, a terrifying human echo echoed throughout the cinema, repeating snippets of sentences from the film. - Maybe we should go back... - Marek whispered, but Anka was already opening the heavy, creaking door. Inside, it was as dark as a grave. Only the faint light of a torch illuminated the rows of red velvet upholstered seats. The screen, scratched and covered in cobwebs, towered over the room like a silent witness to past events. Suddenly, somewhere from the end of the room, a quiet murmur came to them. Then silence again. Anka dared to walk towards the screen. With every step she took, the old planks creaked under her feet. Suddenly Marek, who had stayed behind, turned around, as he was sure he felt a breath of cold air on his neck, as if someone was standing right behind him and whispering some unintelligible words. - Did you hear that? - he whispered out. At that moment, a strange sound suddenly flowed from the speakers, which were not plugged in - an indistinct repetition of their last words, but distorted, deep and getting louder. The friends looked at each other in fear. The door behind them slammed shut of its own accord with a shrill bang, and the echo of their names echoed throughout the room, mingling with a mysterious, unfamiliar voice that slowly began to say something neither of them understood
