Corridors of Time: Last Minute at Victoria Station
A nocturnal chill filled the hall of the old Victoria station, and the echo of footsteps echoed under the cracked vaults. Anthony and Lena, friends since high school, had decided to visit this forgotten place just for a joke - they were, after all, not far from their dormitory. No one expected that a simple evening walk would become the start of something more serious.
Moving carefully among the rusty benches and pre-1990s advertisements, Lena spotted a small brass object under the shadow of a carved clock. She picked it up despite Antony's protests, curious as to what it might be - the medallion had an engraved date: '21/07/1899'. Inside, instead of a photograph, was an intricately engraved plan of the station and a row of unknown symbols.
- I think this is some kind of riddle... - muttered Anthony, leaning over to see better. As he touched the medallion together with Lena, there was a quiet crackle in the air and... everything around him swirled. The light of the fluorescent lamps went out, the floor beneath them trembled, and the air was permeated by the sweet smell of fresh paint, as if the walls had been repainted.
When they opened their eyes, they found themselves in a completely different train station - the same, but bustling with travellers in period costumes, conductors and the clatter of suitcases. The medallion pulsed with invisible light.
- I think... I think we've travelled back in time! - whispered Lena, trying to hide her disbelief.
Suddenly, next to them, an energetic man in a cylinder stopped with a beating watch in his hand. - You guys! Help! - he said in a half-hearted voice, handing them a mysterious piece of paper. - If you don't make it before midnight, it will be too late. Everything could change...
The first alarm sounded at the station. Time was running out, and Lena and Anthony stood on the brink of epochs - with a medallion, a riddle and a card that could save the future... or plunge it forever.
