Closed doors at the House on the Edge of the Forest
Darkness was slowly descending on the small town when Lena, Bartek and Aga arrived at the edge of the forest. In front of them rose an old red brick house that had been abandoned for years. Rumour had it that strange noises were heard here at night and sometimes pale lights flashed in the windows. For them, however, this was a chance for an adventure like they had never experienced before - and the perfect way to break the boredom of the last weeks of the summer holidays.
They went inside through a broken window in the kitchen. Dust and cobwebs danced in the torchlight. After a while, fear gave way to excitement. Each step into the unknown corridors became another part of their own thriller story. In the central part of the house stood the crumbling staircase leading to the first floor, but the closed door in the living room attracted the most attention.
- Did you hear that? - whispered Aga, stopping suddenly. A quiet creak sounded from deep inside the house, as if someone was slowly opening a window. Bartek looked at Lena, but she only shrugged her shoulders.
They cautiously approached the door. Until now it seemed to lead to the pantry, but now... something had changed. There were engraved symbols on the surface of the old wood that had not been there before. The door seemed to pulsate, as if it were breathing. The handle was icy to the touch, and a barely audible whisper came from behind the door - was it voices, or maybe just the wind?
Bartek hesitated. Aga looked at her friends, clutching her torch tighter. Lena brought her face closer to the wood. A cold breeze blew in from behind the door, bringing with it the smell of dampness and... something else they couldn't name.
- 'Let's open it,' Lena finally said quietly, her voice breaking through the tense silence.
Bartek raised a trembling hand to the door handle. Everyone held their breath. At that moment, all three of them had a feeling that if they opened this door, nothing would be the same as before....
The handle creaked.
