City under the Silver Moon
Lena lived on the edge of town, in a quiet neighbourhood where the streetlights went out early and the streets belonged only to the shadows after dark. Although she was 18, she still liked to go for a walk in the evenings, when the world lost its focus and everything seemed a little more possible. One chilly evening, as the silver moon hung high and the light spilled over the rooftops, Lena noticed something she hadn't seen before.
Between two old houses stood a tower. It wasn't new or dilapidated, it just seemed to have grown out of a dream. As she got closer, she felt a tingling sensation in her fingers. The door of the tower was ajar, and from behind it came a quiet noise, as if someone was reciting a poem in a completely foreign language. A boy in a long coat was sitting on the steps, his hair the colour of the night sky and his eyes reflecting the moonlight.
- I've been waiting for you,' he said with a smile. - Only those who can see with their hearts can enter further. - He raised his hand, and dozens of coloured lights flashed in the air, swirling like skylights.
Lena felt her imagination expand, going beyond mere reality. The world around her suddenly began to change: the walls of the tower pulsed with soft light, and strange patterns formed on the floor that she could not recognise.
- 'This is the boundary,' the boy said. - Once you cross it, nothing will be the same as before. We can go in together, but only if you dare.
Music filled the air, and Lena felt that she was about to discover something she had always dreamed of, although she did not yet know what it was. The boy held out his hand to her. The door behind her suddenly slammed shut with a quiet click....
