City Above the Line of Lights
Leon approached the train window, smearing steam on the glass with his finger. It was the first time he had seen the City Above the Line of Lights - a locality that only those who dream of it get to. The streets swirled as if they had been created from pieces of a dream, and luminous silhouettes of mist floated above the roofs of the houses - the dreams, memories and imaginations of the inhabitants. She and Maja, her childhood friend, got off at a small station where lanterns sang quietly of old songs. They walked through the town, feeling reality and dream intertwine around them. In the market square, they met a woman with a hat made of a thought that was so old that no one remembered its beginning anymore. "Here, anything you can think of can happen," she whispered to them, disappearing around the corner of the street, which in a moment dissipated as if it had never existed. Maja pulled Leon towards a mysterious house that appeared at a crossroads. It had a door built from a dream of yellow birds and windows glowing with blue mist. There was quiet laughter and the murmur of conversations coming from inside, though no one entered or left. They stopped in front of the door. Leon felt his own thoughts become more and more real - a small paper dragon he had made when he was a child emerged from inside his pocket. It spread its wings and wafted slightly. They already knew that in this house they would find answers to questions they hadn't yet asked, and secrets they didn't know about. For a moment, they both hesitated to knock on the door. Then a soft voice rang out from inside the house, calling their names in a whisper...
