The Circus of Mirror Dreams appeared on the outskirts of the town completely unexpectedly. No one saw the trucks drive into the clearing or the colourful tents spring up. One day there was just morning mist, and the next there was a swirling crowd, the smell of candyfloss and mesmerising melodies swirling in the air. Kuba and Lena, the eighth-grade siblings, gazed at the illuminated grounds through the open wickets. The circus was tempting: lights reflected in puddles, and children's laughter mingled with the serious whispers of adults. Everyone was talking about the Mirror Maze, a new attraction that no one had seen until now. - 'Let's go there tonight,' Lena said, clutching a ticket she had found under a school bench. Cuba nodded, feeling his heartbeat quicken. The mysterious labyrinth was only supposed to appear once, and to some it supposedly showed something they had no right to see. As dusk fell, they squeezed through the crowd to the entrance of the labyrinth. From behind a row of multicoloured figures and jugglers waving flaming torches, glittering walls of mirrors emerged - smooth, winding, flickering with a slightly greenish light. An inscription on the door read: "Know thyself if you dare". After just a few steps, they realised that there were infinitely more reflections and corridors inside than could fit under the tent. Each mirror seemed to move, and the children spotted mysterious silhouettes in the reflections. Somewhere in the distance, the voice of an illusionist echoed, inviting them to find the exit. Lena turned to her brother to say something, but suddenly her reflection winked at her. Cuba stepped back, and the floor disappeared beneath his feet. They both collapsed into the darkness, hearing a quiet whisper: - Time for the strangest show of the night.... Before Lena had time to shout, the lights of a new world lit up around them, and the circus drum killed once, a second, a third....
