Amelka had never been to the circus before. When her dad told her that tonight they would be going to a show, she jumped for joy. She took her best friend, the plush lion Leon, and together with her parents they set off for the big clearing outside the city. The circus tent was huge and as colourful as a rainbow. At the entrance stood a clown with a red nose who handed out balloons to the children. Amelka chose a heart-shaped balloon. Inside the tent smelled of roasting corn and candyfloss, and lights flashed merrily over the arena. Amelka sat in the front row. To her left sat an elderly gentleman with a beard, and to her right a girl with pigtails who was clutching a small plush elephant. Soon the lights dimmed and the first artists came out into the arena. First there was riding on unicycles, then dancing with colourful ribbons. Just when everyone thought they had seen the most exciting numbers, suddenly a strange, funny sound came from behind the curtain. A troupe of small, motley dressed doggies appeared and started dancing on their hind legs, and one of them even posed with a tiny hat! The whole audience laughed and clapped. Suddenly the circus leader, a gentleman in a tall cylinder, announced through a megaphone: - Attention, you are about to see a show you have never seen before! We are going to ask everyone to concentrate, because something really special is going to appear in the arena... Then Amelka noticed that tiny lights began to appear above the arena, circling faster and faster. Leon squeezed her hand tighter, as if he was also looking forward to what was going to happen....
