Rain drummed against the roof of the old tent as Lena slid sideways through the parted canvas. The smell of candyfloss and wet wood was in the air. Circus 'Galante' always appeared out of nowhere and disappeared just as suddenly, leaving behind only strange posters and lots of questions. Igor was already waiting inside, clutching two tickets for the night's show in his hand. "Apparently they have a new number - Mirrors of Illusion," he whispered, unable to hide his excitement. Lena smiled slightly. The circus was their place - here they never felt strange. The hall was almost empty, only a few people shuffled against the wall, tightly wrapped in their coats. On stage, lights illuminated a curtain, from behind which a woman in a costume covered with silver studs stepped out. Her movements were so fluid that it was hard to tell if she was stepping at all. "Welcome daredevils," she said in a voice deep and melodious. The curtain parted, revealing a row of shabby mirrors. Lena felt a shudder as her reflection blinked out a fraction of a second later than she should have. The show began with simple tricks; reflections danced, changed colour, smiled broadly. However, the show became weirder with each passing minute. When Lena looked at herself in the mirror for the umpteenth time, she saw someone who looked like her, but not the same. The girl in the mirror clenched her fists, and Lena felt a sudden chill on the back of her neck. Igor touched her shoulder. "Lena, look at this," he whispered. One of the mirrors reflected a scene that looked very different in person - someone backstage was gesturing violently, as if trying to warn the audience. At the same moment, the lights suddenly dimmed and the woman in the silver costume disappeared. The curtain shook violently and all the mirrors flashed with a strange silver light. Lena and Igor froze, unable to take their eyes off their own reflections....
