Chocolate Intrigue at the Pensioners' Club
At the heart of the town stood a stately Pensioners' Club called the Silver Crest. Contrary to popular belief, it was not dominated by the smell of lavender and discussions about rheumatism, but by laughter, the rustling of chips and an obscene amount of jokes about middle age.
It was here that they met: Barbara, a sudoku master and informal club leader; Marian, a former rally driver with a passion for crochet; and Zbyszek, a coffee lover who would fall asleep even while talking. One Tuesday, just after an exciting bingo match, a mysterious card written in meticulous handwriting appeared on the table: "Looking for a real sweet? At midnight under the broom cupboard. Admission for initiates only. Key word: praline!"
Barbara muttered. "Praline? Sweetness? Someone is trying to put us to the test.... Or hiding the best cakes from us! Zbyszek, check if this isn't a repeat of your joke from last month!" Zbyszek awoke suddenly: "Me, I don't even remember how I got here!" Marian was already searching through the broom cupboard, but apart from the strange cat, he found nothing of interest.
Night was coming on. All three of them crept along the corridor, armed with torches and a thermos of coffee. Something rustled in the corner. Barbara lowered her voice: "If it's some secret chocolate sect, we have to be careful. Marian, put the crochet hook away, it's making too much noise."
They were just about to utter the key word when a quiet giggle. The door slowly swung open, and inside awaited an extraordinary sight that neither of them had even dared to imagine....
