Café under the Invisible Clock

Café under the Invisible Clock
The night was thick, impenetrable, and under the old lime trees in Kopernika Street, the shadows rippled as if with a life of their own. Natalia, Lena and Roch stopped under the neon sign of the café "Pod Niewidzialnym Zegarem" (Under the Invisible Clock), pressing their hands to warm mugs with tea they had bought to take away. This was their refuge - the one place where the world slowed down for a moment. The café had no signboard, just a clock mounted above the entrance. A clock that, according to urban legend, never went to the same time as the rest of the world. "This is some kind of joke by the owner," Natalia repeated to herself, but every time she came here she felt a strange excitement. On this evening it was raining lightly, and the quiet strumming of the piano was coming from inside the café. - The place looks different today, Lena noted, peering through the steamed-up window. Behind the counter, instead of the usual barista, stood a man in a dark green tailcoat, with a pocket watch in his hand. He waved his hand at them, inviting them in. They sat down by the window, and the waiter wordlessly placed three identical cups of blue tea in front of them. On the saucer were cards with their names on them, written in calligraphic script. Roch picked up his card, looking in confusion at the marks running down it - the letters began to form a short message: "In a moment, time will come full circle. Are you ready?" Outside, the clock above the door suddenly started ticking loudly, the hands turning faster and faster. The lights went out in the café and a golden glow flashed from behind the bar, illuminating the waiter's silhouette. There was something in his eyes that neither of them had ever seen before - a reflection of their own faces, but.... older, as if from another time. For a moment, they all froze. In that very split second, they heard the sound of the door opening and felt a slight blast of cold air. Someone else was about to enter - or they were already here, they just hadn't noticed them until now....
