Cactus Club of Absurd Adventures
In the middle of the crowded, ever-so-slightly foggy town of Grzybowo, three completely different people shared a flat on the third floor of a tenement with walls the colour of dill soup. Had someone invited them here? No. Did they feel at home? Neither. But it didn't bother them one bit, because even if the fridge breathed louder than they did and the neighbours were convinced there was a penguin living in the lift - life in Fungowo was never boring.
It was Friday. The sun was warming through the window, which they only opened in summer because then it didn't freeze over. Leonard - a stocky librarian, sensitive to the commas he read, was just spreading ginger jam on his bread. Matilda - a slightly absent-minded chemist, was wearing slippers shaped like undercooked dumplings and looking for the remote control, convinced it had fallen into the carp aquarium. Finally, there was Philip - a lover of all things absurd, and his latest invention, a self-winding sock, was gathering dust on a shelf.
Their morning was disturbed by a knock on the door, which sounded as if someone was trying to summon the ghost of an old washing machine. A package lay on the doormat. No name, just with a sign: "Don't open if you don't like surprises". Philip immediately ignored the warning, because, after all, surprises are his passion. However, Matilda, with a face as serious as the Periodic Table, suggested appropriate precautions: safety glasses, an umbrella and rubber gloves.
They were already about to open the parcel when Leonard noticed something strange: the package... moved. At first lightly, then more and more boldly, until finally it started hopping like a penguin on ice. The carp in the aquarium took a tumble, Philip froze with his hammer raised (in case he had to fight the packet), and Matilda muttered: "There's something fermenting in our mailbox again."
At that moment there was a quiet, barely audible hiss, and a narrow green shoot shot out of the parcel. It resembled a cactus, only it had a tiny yellow USB cable at the end. Everyone looked at each other suspiciously.
"Did any of you order an electronic cactus?" - asked Leonard, holding the jammie up like a scepter.
The parcel cactus began to flicker pink and, to the amazement of all three, spoke in a thin digital voice:
"Prepare for an unusual adventure. You will receive instructions shortly..."
At that moment, the front door shook with a new, much stronger knock. Could it be that the pack had something else to say?
