Did You Know?

Blue Star Circus

Blue Star Circus
Patrick always felt that the small town he lives in never surprised him. Everyone knew each other here, and evening conversations in the café resembled endless repetition. However, when the Blue Star Circus appeared in the clearing behind the woods, everything changed. The tent was huge and shone in the sunlight as if it had been fashioned from fragments of the night sky. Rows of light bulbs twinkled on ropes and posters proclaimed: "One show only! Tonight!" Patrick couldn't resist - and he wasn't alone. Lena, his best friend, had promised to come too, even though circuses frightened her a bit. In the evening, as the blue mist hung over the meadow, they set off together towards the circus. A crowd had gathered in front of the entrance. Patrick felt a slight thrill of excitement as he watched the performers strolling among the people. A man on stilts was talking to a raven, a woman in a glittering cloak seemed to be hovering above the grass. The very smell of candyfloss and popcorn seemed out of the ordinary. Out of the corner of her eye, Lena noticed that the clown's shadow was reflected in the opposite direction to his figure. Patrick laughed at this, but from that moment on he began to look at everything more carefully. The show started with the illusionist's performance, who not only disappeared into the smoke, but even appeared for a moment right next to them in the audience, winking at Lena in agreement. Then the acrobat twins rushed into the arena, moving in perfect synchronisation. Their reflections in the mirror set up in the middle of the arena, however, were subtly different - one of the girls appeared older, and the other had a tattoo that her sister did not. During a break, Lena convinced Patrick to look around the backstage corridors with her. She pulled him through a small staff passageway, taking advantage of the confusion. After a while they found themselves in a part of the circus where no one had noticed them. Curtains, old props and huge cages cast intricate shadows on the floor. Laughter sounded from afar - strange, metallic laughter. Lena held Patrick by the arm. In front of them was the silhouette of a figure, whose face could not be seen in the semi-darkness. From inside one of the cages, green eyes flashed towards them. Patrick felt his heart beat faster... Just then, a trumpet signal sounded, summoning the artists for the final performance. But Lena, instead of turning back, pulled Patrick even deeper into the maze of curtains, closer to the disturbing silhouettes that suddenly began to move.
