Behind the Curtain of Night: A Circus Mystery

Behind the Curtain of Night: A Circus Mystery
A thick fog shrouded the town as the first circus wagons appeared in the main square. It was a warm summer night and yet everyone seemed to be trembling with excitement. The 'Nocturna' circus only came once a year and always left a lot of secrets behind. This year, three friends went to the show - Lena, who photographed everything and everyone, Marek, a lover of magic, and Julia, an incorrigible sceptic who claimed that illusions were just a matter of skilled hands and good tricks. At the entrance, they were greeted by a huge, glittering tent, lit up by a thousand lights. Its purple and black stripes resembled molten galaxies, and the air was filled with the pungent smell of popcorn mixed with something indefinable, almost electric. Walking ahead, Lena took pictures every now and then, catching in the lens the smiling faces of the clowns, the thoughtful glances of the acrobats and the strangely motionless, pale girl with dark pink hair standing by the tent of mirrors. Marvellous and awe-inspiring things were happening in the arena - tight-rope walkers glided under the dome, fire performers spat out clouds of blue flame, an illusionist disappeared and reappeared right behind the audience's back, and when a female singer with a voice like a bell rose into the air, the hall fell silent in awe. Everything seemed perfect, until a break in the show, when Lena noticed something disturbing: there were figures reflected in the mirrored maze that were not inside. Marek, meanwhile, was reprimanded by the circus magician for looking backstage. Julia, whose logical mind trembled for a moment, admitted that she felt something strange - as if someone was constantly watching them. When the sound sounded inviting them to the big final act, the three friends exchanged glances full of tension. Lena looked at her photos and clearly saw in one of them a mysterious figure in a mask, standing right behind them, although none of them remembered her. The lights dimmed, and a sound they had never heard before came from inside the tent
