Behind the curtain of feelings

Behind the curtain of feelings
The old theatre on Oak Street was a place full of history - and secrets. It was here, in the forgotten backstage area, that a group of high school students from the third year class gathered to prepare the final staging of the year. There was a smell of dust in the air and the spotlights cast long shadows on the shabby seats for the now defunct audience. They were led by Cuba, an ambitious director who abhorred banality. Sonia, the lead actress, had long harboured a quiet affection for him, but could not admit it - even to herself. Among them was also Igor, seemingly confident but hiding his fears from the world. Each of them tried to work out the secrets of their own emotions, but day by day the atmosphere grew thicker and thicker, as if the theatre itself fed on the nerves of the young. One evening, during a rehearsal, the lights suddenly went out. Confusion reigned among the actors. Sonia felt her heart beating faster, and from backstage she heard a disturbing whisper, blurring the line between reality and fantasy. Was it just oversensitivity caused by stress, or was there really something hiding in the theatre that could bring out the most hidden emotions? As the lights came back on, Sonia noticed a shadow on the stage - a shape that no one in the ensemble knew. She glanced fleetingly at Cuba, and his face betrayed anxiety. There was a sense of tension in the air, as if something - or someone - was waiting for the young artists to cross an invisible boundary. At the moment, none of them knew if the rehearsal had just begun... or if it had just ended.
