Basia and the enchanted slippers
Basia lived in a yellow house at the end of Acacia Street. She loved to play in her room and invent all sorts of games. One rainy afternoon, when the drops were drumming against the glass, Basia decided to look for something interesting in an old cupboard under the stairs. There were things there that no one had looked at for a long time.
When she opened the cupboard, at the very bottom, underneath her grandmother's colourful scarves and hat, she spotted a pair of strange slippers. They were fluffy, purple and had a big, shiny bead instead of a button. Basia had never seen them before. She slipped her feet into the slippers with curiosity. Suddenly she felt a slight tickle. At the same moment her cat, Philemon, looked at her with puzzled eyes.
Basia decided to take a step forward, but something unusual happened. The foot itself rose a few centimetres above the floor! Philemon meowed, as if he couldn't believe what he was seeing. Basia tried to take one more step.... and then she saw that in her slippers she could.... glide over the carpet!
Delighted, she began to circle lightly around the room. All she had to do was think of a place and the slippers would carry her there by themselves. So she flew up to the ceiling and touched the chandelier, then flew out into the hallway, where more adventures awaited her.
That's when she heard tapping coming from the attic. The slippers began to glow gently with a warm light, and Basia sensed that something very unusual was waiting for her right there....
