Awakening aboard Kronos
The Kronos spacecraft drifted slowly amidst an unimaginably black void. Outside the hull stretched an endless ocean of stars that seemed to stretch endlessly in all directions. This silence and stillness, however, did not herald anything good.
The first person to regain consciousness was Max. He opened his eyes and saw the emergency lights flickering on his eyelids. As he rose from the hibernation pod, everything around him seemed strangely different - the air was heavy and the control panels flashed warnings in languages he had never seen before.
Moments later, Lena - a pilot with nerves of steel, fascinated by space since childhood - also woke up. Her first instinct was to check that communications were working. Unfortunately, calls to the base were going nowhere outside the deck. "We need to wake up the rest of the crew," she said quietly.
After a few minutes, everyone was on their feet: engineer Mia, whose hands were always soiled with grease, and Kacper, the youngest member of the expedition, an avid explorer and language specialist. The crew looked at each other communicatively.
Outside, the portholes were flickering with a strange, bluish light. "Where are we?" asked Kacper, trying to activate the star map. Instead of the familiar constellations, the display showed a completely alien array of stars, and a series of unfamiliar symbols appeared next to it.
Suddenly, a quiet, pulsing signal sounded from the wall. The lights flickered and an image appeared on the main screen - an unknown planet, surrounded by a cloud of coloured rings, beckoned them to land with an automated message. Lost, tired and full of questions, all four looked at each other anxiously.
Lena, peering through the porthole, saw something else - in the distance, against the deep blackness, something was moving. The movement was slow, almost imperceptible, yet it made her shiver. "We should get ready... Whatever it is, we're not alone here," she whispered.
After a moment of silence, the companions lined up at the console, ready for action. The door to one of the corridors opened with a hiss. A soft, mechanical clatter sounded from inside the ship, as if something - or someone - was approaching the bridge.
Max felt his heart begin to beat faster. Mia held her breath. Everyone waited, ready for what was about to happen....
