Aurora station 7: Transmission from the abyss
Raul, Nadia and Leo lived on Aurora Station 7, drifting in Titan's orbit. Earth was millions of kilometres away from them - and it seemed as unreal as the stories of green fields and blue skies. Here, everything had a metallic sheen, and all you could see through the armoured windows was darkness and the nasty orange shadow of the moon.
One evening - or rather, at a random 'evening hour', as the sun only appeared here as a bright spot - Raul hustled his friends to the abandoned Section 19 laboratory. No one had looked there since the 'Hydrogel Incident'.
"Listen to this," he whispered, turning on the player. A distorted, intermittent voice-like sound came from the old speaker. For a moment Leo thought it was just radio noise, but then they heard it clearly: "Aurora... you are not alone..."
Nadia looked at them with wide eyes. "Is this a joke? We've never picked up signals from outside the station!"
Raul shook his head. "The recording came from outside, from the deep ring belt. The equipment caught it only an hour ago. We need to find out who transmitted it - and why."
Leo felt a shiver run down his spine. There was a view of Titan through the window, and in the deafening silence of the station every rustle sounded like a scream. "What if it's something... different?" he said, lowering his voice.
Nadia gathered the remnants of courage. "Let's check the source. I'll use the panel in the Navigation Room. Maybe we can trace the sender."
The corridors of the station echoed with their footsteps as they ran through the intricate maze of Aurora 7. The door to the Navigation Room opened with a hiss. Nadia took a seat at the console, her fingers sliding across the holographic buttons.
After a moment, a dot appeared on the panel. "I'm picking up something else... It's not a single signal, it's a... transmission. Someone - or something - is sending us a message all the time."
Raul looked at the screen. "From deep within the rings? That's impossible."
Suddenly all the lights dimmed and for a moment there was a deafening, absolute silence. Then the panel beeped. Three words appeared on the display that they had never seen there before:
"COME TO ME."
At the same moment, a muffled bang sounded somewhere in the outer module, and the whole deck began to shake slowly....
