Amulet of the Dark Ravine

Amulet of the Dark Ravine
David had always been attracted to unexplained things, and Lena had gained a reputation among her friends as one who was not afraid to enter even the dark cellar of the old school. That night, when the stars had gone out over their village for a while, they both stood at the entrance to the old forest. No one went here anymore - not since old Alina, the herbalist and witch whom the children called Whisperer, had disappeared. The deeper they wandered into the thicket, the heavier the silence seemed, and shadows danced on the ground, although the wind did not even stir. Lena was the first to notice something glinting among the roots of a twisted oak tree. The ground was soft, as if it had been recently dug up. They dug out from under it a small amulet of black stone, laced with silver thread. When David touched it for the first time, an icy shiver ran through his fingers. "Do you think this belonged to the Whisperer?" - whispered Lena, looking at David with concern. At the same moment, the forest came alive: invisible birds began to swish in the branches, and a penetrating whisper pierced the air, so quiet that it could be mistaken for his own thoughts. Confused, the friends wanted to put the amulet down, but it could not be released from David's hand. The silver began to shine, spreading a bluish glow around them. Suddenly, a fissure in the ground opened up in front of them, leading to a ravine that had never been here before. From its dark throat came voices - quietly laughing, whispering their names. Lena looked at David: "Shall we go?" It became clear that here was the beginning of an adventure whose finale could not be predicted....
