Alice's international passage

Alice's international passage
Alice has always been curious. Recently, when the school was almost empty after lessons, she went to a place that was said to be cursed - the old, long disused wing of primary school No. 31. The corridors there had long been overgrown with vines, and dust lay thick on the floor. To her, this was more exciting than scary. She decided to see if the rumours of a strange glow were true. After only a few minutes of cautiously traversing the corridors, she noticed that the air was strangely thickening. The sounds of the school fell silent behind the thick doors. All she could hear was the beating of her own heart. Suddenly, to her left, something caught her eye - a light was flickering at the end of the corridor. Alice walked closer and saw a huge mirror, although it had never been there before. The mirror looked like a portal - the surface rippled, reflecting not her face but the colourful skyline of an unknown city. At that moment, another figure slid out from around the corner - Cuba, a classmate who had obviously been following her. "What are you doing here?" - he whispered in surprise. Alice looked at him and then back at the mirror. Their reflections looked different, as if they were dressed in strange clothes from centuries ago. The city in the background pulsed with radiance, and a warmth radiated from the mirror. Without thinking, the girl reached out and touched the surface. Her fingers disappeared into the surface, as if they had fallen into the water. "Don't do that..." - whispered Cuba, but he himself could not take his eyes off the portal. Something was pulling them both in, an invisible force; on the other side, the world shimmered with a feast of colours and mysterious shapes. A tense silence hung in the air - what would happen if they crossed to the other side? Alicia looked at Cuba once more. They both took a step forward. The portal flicked harder, and a low, resonant murmur spread around them....
