A whisper among the ruins
Darkness was thickening outside the windows as Julia, Michal and Lena stood in front of the former Technikum No. 3 building. The school had been abandoned for years, overgrown with ivy, with broken windows - locals said you could hear whispers inside after dark. Julia pulled out her phone, the torch only highlighting what the shadows hid: the detached doors, the scattered textbooks, the footprints of shoes from weeks ago.
- Come on, let's go back - Lena squeezed Michal's shoulder. - 'This is a stupid idea.
- I want to see if it's true - replied Michal, glancing at Julka. - Maybe we can find some traces of that teacher who went missing.
They walked up the creaking stairs. The corridor looked as if time had stopped here. Old notices hung on the walls, some dated a decade ago. There was a musty smell of paper and rust in the air.
Julia stopped at a corkboard. On the back of one of the pieces of paper, someone, in a tentative hand, had written: "Don't go to the attic after dark".
- Did you hear? - Lena suddenly turned pale. From the depths of the school came a low, dragging sound, something between a moan and a hum. Michael took a deep breath.
- 'Let's check the attic,' he said, although he himself felt a shiver down his spine.
The stairs to the attic creaked with each step. The door was barely ajar. A cold breeze came from inside, and a silhouette flashed in the torchlight.
Lena wanted to say something, but at the same moment a distinct whisper rang out, right next to their ears, although there was no one else in the room but them: "You shouldn't be here...".
