A night-time adventure in the Old Library

A night-time adventure in the Old Library
Basia was very fond of reading books and her younger brother Antek loved adventures. One evening, Dad took them to the old library, which was holding a nightly fairy tale reading that day. It was quiet inside and the shelves were stacked with thick, colourful books. The librarian, Ms Zosia, said: "Tonight, when the clock strikes eight, we will read a fairy tale about dragons and princesses!" Basia and Antek sat comfortably on the fluffy cushions. Suddenly, as Mrs Zosia was opening the big book, something squeaked in one of the dark corners of the library. Antek looked towards the shadows - had someone moved there? Basia squeezed her brother's hand. A quiet giggle could be heard in the silence. Who could be laughing at such a late hour? Perhaps it was the librarian's cat? But the cat was asleep curled up in a ball on the armchair by the door. Antek noticed that on the monster bookshelf one of the books was just sliding out! Was it the wind? Or is someone playing a joke on them? Basia and Antek decided to see what was going on. They slowly walked closer to the creaking shelf. It was getting darker as the lamplight flickered. A book had just fallen to the floor with a loud crash! Immediately a strange voice came to them from the depths of the library: "Don't be afraid..." A shadow appeared in the middle of the floor. Basia and Antek held their breath and watched with wide-open eyes. What or who was waiting for them among the books?
