Tosia and the disappearing star

Tosia and the disappearing star
Snow falls quietly outside the window on Christmas Eve. Tosia hangs baubles and mum serves gingerbread cookies. The Christmas tree smells of forest and sweet sugar. There is still a star left for the very top. Tosia looks for it in the ornament box. But there is only gold dust in the box. A card lies on the table: "I am borrowing the star. I'll be back." Tosia reads carefully and wrinkles her nose. Tosia asks: "Mum, who borrowed it?" Mum shrugs her shoulders and listens for the bell. A quiet sound comes from somewhere under the Christmas tree. Small, shiny footprints can be seen on the carpet. They lead straight to a huge pile of presents. Tosia walks slowly and carefully pushes the boxes away. The branches rustle and reveal a small door. The handle shines and moves slightly. A warm golden light flashes behind the door. "Mum, can you hear someone ringing the bell?" says Tosia. Mum nods and holds Tosia's hand. Someone on the other side is just turning the key.
