Did You Know?

The Hidden Code of the City of Vesper

The Hidden Code of the City of Vesper
Vesper was no ordinary town. Everyone said nothing ever happened here, but Alex knew that was just an excuse for adults not noticing the little things. Every morning, as he walked to school, he looked differently at the familiar streets - as if there was something more than stripped posters and forgotten benches hiding in every fold of the walls. On this day, the road was different. As he crossed the square by the old cinema, he spotted what looked like ordinary graffiti. But when he blinked and looked again, the letters began to glow faintly, pulsating with a dull, bluish light. The boy instinctively looked around - no one else was paying attention. He began to see similar signs on the walls of other buildings and under benches in the market square. The letters formed impossible words that could not be read, but Alex felt something draw him to them. His heart beat faster when he tried to write them down in a notebook - but on plain paper they disappeared as if they didn't exist. At school, he couldn't concentrate. He glanced out of the window every now and then, looking for flashes of blue light on the walls. After lessons, he told Ola and Igor about everything. Ola, fascinated by the puzzles, immediately asked him to take her there. Igor was sceptical, but when they saw the pulsating sentences on the wall of the old power station, they all fell silent. "Do you think it's some kind of code?" - asked Ola, touching the cold brick. As soon as she put her hand to one of the letters, Alex felt a strange tingling in his fingers. The blue light became brighter, spreading to all three of them. Suddenly the letters began to form words they didn't know, but still understood their meaning. "Open the gate, at midnight, where shadow becomes light," read Alex quietly, and silence fell around them, as if even the city held its breath for a moment. Igor looked at them in disbelief. "Do you want to go there?" - he asked, but he already knew that all three of them would not be able to resist. Only... where exactly did the signs lead? And what was going to happen in the place where shadow meets light? The clock in the town square was slowly striking another hour. There was a sense of tension in the air, and the three friends weren't sure whether it was a thrill of excitement or anxiety. With a map of the city in hand and glowing signs in their heads, they set off in the direction where the gate was supposed to be waiting for them. As they reached the old tunnel beneath the city, the lights began to pulsate faster and the air vibrated with invisible energy. As they approached the iron door at the end of the dark passage, Alex felt a strong tingling in his hands, as if he was about to touch something that would change his life forever. Then something on the other side of the tunnel flashed with a sharp blue light and someone's voice came to them from the depths of the darkness. They held their breath and took a step towards the light....
