Night Secrets of the Old Sanatorium
The forest outside the town, dense and dark, had always seemed rather safe - until the old sanatorium building started attracting more and more rumours. Julka had long wanted to see the ruins for herself, and the end of June, with its short nights and endless conversations about the future, was the perfect time to propose something a little crazy.
The plan was simple: gather after midnight by the old road, walk through the scrub and go inside through a broken window at the back of the building. She was joined by Kamil, Lena and Maks - each pretending not to feel fear, but all clutching their torches as tightly as if they were the ones to guarantee their safety.
The silence inside the sanatorium was thick, broken only by the sound of the wind in the holes in the window frames. Julka walked first, trying not to pay attention to the reflected lights of the torches that danced on the drab walls. They browsed the empty lounges, peering into rooms where patients had once lain. Everything seemed deserted - until Lena stumbled across an abandoned drinks can. The tin looked too fresh for a deserted place, and a packet of cigarettes lay still warm above it.
Kamil picked up the object and Maks, in a hushed voice, chuckled: "We are not alone here." At that moment, somewhere on the floor above, there was the dragging sound of a sliding door. Everyone froze, listening as the echo slowly quieted in the depths of the corridor. Suddenly, from around the corner, a quiet whisper came to them....
Julka looked around at her friends. They each held their breath, trying to understand if what they had just heard was just an illusion, or if someone - or something - was watching them from the darkness.
