Grandmother's Clock Whispers
Lena lives with her Grandmother above the bakery. Every afternoon smells of bread and tea. An old wooden clock hangs in the kitchen. It has golden hands and a swinging pendulum. Grandma says: "This clock likes secrets at six o'clock". Lena laughs, but always listens to the ticking.
The day is as quiet as tin on bread. But at six o'clock the hands start dancing. The clock calls out in a whisper: "Le-no, listen now". Lena puts her hands on the warm countertop. The lights in the kitchen twinkle like eyes. The pendulum flashes and draws the shape of the door. The door opens quietly, smells of fresh grass. Grandma winks, "Remember, ask politely to come in." Lena climbs onto the stool, her heart beating fast. Behind the door you can see a path of tiny stars. The clock asks: "Ready for the first step?" Lena takes a breath, lifts her foot and....
